On July 9, 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the special representative of the NATO Secretary General for the Caucasus and Central Asia, Xavier Colomina, within the framework of his visit to Washington D.C. to attend the events organized on margins of the NATO Summit.

At the meeting, security, defense, energy security, protection of critical infrastructure, education and other aspects of Azerbaijan-NATO cooperation agenda, as well as issues related to regional and international security were discussed.

The successful continuation of the 30-year partnership under mutual understanding within the framework of the "Partnership for Peace" program, which established Azerbaijan's cooperation with NATO, was noted with satisfaction.

Informing about our country's chairmanship of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said that our chairmanship of COP29 is another clear example of our activity in fighting global challenges.

Speaking about the current security situation in the region during the post-conflict period, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov drew attention to the fact that Armenia continues to pose a threat to civilians with landmines and that Armenia is rapidly arming itself.

Additionally, it was mentioned that Azerbaijan, as the initiator of the main elements of the peace process with Armenia, is an interested party in establishing peace and stability in the region. Despite the significant progress on the draft peace agreement, the ongoing claims against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan in the Constitution of Armenia were noted.
During the meeting, parties also exchanged views on other matters of mutual interest.
